Karan Mahabalshetti is a civil engineer and management professional currently leading the implementation of the Wayside Amenities Project at Mallapur Village, Chitradurga, developed by Sumarga Amenities Pvt. Ltd. under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model with the National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
An alumnus of Queen Mary University, London, where he completed his Master’s in Management, Karan also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Bengaluru. His educational journey began at Jain International School and Sri Chaitanya.
Before joining Sumarga Amenities, Karan gained hands-on experience as a Junior Engineer at Raja Group, contributing to a major project in Adugodi, Bengaluru. With over two years of professional experience, he has developed a strong grounding in construction management, project execution, and operational strategy.
At Sumarga, he is responsible for end-to-end project implementation, overseeing design coordination, vendor management, construction planning, and quality control. The Chitradurga project—spanning 11 acres along NH-48—is envisioned as one of Karnataka’s most forward-thinking highway infrastructure developments, integrating food courts, retail outlets, a 3-star hotel, a 1,000-capacity convention centre, EV charging facilities, dormitories for truck drivers, and landscaped public zones.
With a blend of technical expertise and strategic vision, Karan represents the new generation of infrastructure leaders focused on innovation, efficiency, and sustainable development. As he transitions into his future role as Director at Sumarga Amenities Pvt. Ltd., he aims to drive projects that enhance commuter experiences and redefine the standards of India’s highway ecosystem.
An Alumni of St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Kolkata & a business management professional with over 30 years of experience in Mall Management, Integrated Facility Management, Retail Operations, Sales & distribution, he has played a pivotal role in helping brands with their business plans, store designs, manpower planning, team building, training & development, etc. Before entering the mall management sphere, he looked into developing and implementing strategy for concept stores, managing cost controls amidst other responsibilities as the Head of Operations for Reliance TimeOut (A Reliance Retail venture).
On taking charge of Mantri Square Mall, he worked towards identifying and amplifying business development opportunities and also in building and managing the team that successfully operates the various functions of the mall. He worked across various noted brands such as Landmark, UBS Publishers, Etcetera Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd., Words n’ Pages Dhaka. His last venture was his own business venture operating a company providing services in Mall Management & Facility Management across South India managing malls, residential & commercial complexes.

Dr. Umesh Basavaraj Mahabalshetti, a distinguished entrepreneur and infrastructure developer, holds a Doctorate in Management Studies and an MBA from the National Institute of Management (NIM), Mumbai, following his degree in Civil Engineering from B.V.V. Sangha, Bagalkot, Karnataka. With over four decades of extensive experience across diverse sectors—including construction, manufacturing, and infrastructure development—Dr. Mahabalshetti has played a pivotal role in shaping large-scale commercial and industrial ventures across South India.
His professional journey spans projects in real estate development, layout formation, group housing, commercial complexes, and land banking, alongside leadership experience in the manufacturing of press tools, dies, electrical transformers, and PVC & HDPE pipes.
At present, Dr. Mahabalshetti leads Sumarga Amenities Pvt Ltd, a company entrusted under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model by the National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML)—a 100% subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)—to develop, operate, and manage a comprehensive Wayside Amenities Project at Mallapur Village, near Chitradurga, Karnataka.
Spread over 11 acres along NH-48, this ₹100 crore project is designed to transform highway travel by integrating a food court & retail zone, 3-star hotel, 1,000-capacity convention centre, specialty restaurants, fuel station with EV charging facilities, truck & car parking bays, dormitories for truck drivers, and beautifully landscaped public spaces.
Strategically positioned between Bengaluru and Hubballi, and in close proximity to major industrial and research hubs like DRDO, ISRO, and HAL (Nayakanahatti), the project is set to become a landmark destination when it commences operations in January 2026.
